Artist's Comments

This was painted while I was serving as the artist in residence for Yosemite Renaissance, up in Yosemite National Park. As part of my residency, I was provided with a two bedroom cabin. I decided to invite a few artist friends to come up and stay with me, so we go venture out and paint together, plein air. El Capitan is usually painted viewed from the meadow in front of it, but two of my visiting artist friends, Kerby Smith and Terry Robinson, knew of this out of the way spot with the Merced River and Dogwood trees in the foreground. Four of us crammed ourselves into the limited space available there to paint this unbelievable vista.
