Artist's Comments

I originally began this piece way back in 2015, during a plein air outing with the Yosemite Western Artists group (now the Yosemite Sierra Artists). It was to be my first attempt at painting flowers back then. I never finished it, but when one of my galleries in California, A Sense of Place, decided to mount a watercolor show in 2026, I decided to complete it for the exhibit. Pulling the unfinished painting out of the closet and comparing it to the reference photo I'd taken, I no longer liked my original composition and decided to begin a new version from scratch. Here you see the final result.
