P.G., Phillip Gordon Thompson, is a good friend and part of the crew I ran with back at Venice High School. We surfed and partied hard together up and down the coast of California. P.G. is a phenominal horn player and in High School was part of the prestigious jazz band, The Crescendos. Led by music department head and Henry Mancini collaborator, Bill Paney, the famous band went off campus to perform in special venues, up and down the state. We did party in the day. I recall a particular evening up in the sand dunes, above Dockweiler Beach, in Playa del Rey, CA, when we'd over-embibed and P.G. couldn't get through a single Tijuana Brass phrase, on his trumpet, without breaking up with laughter. Fun times!
