This took a 1st Place in the 43rd Annual Tri-County Art Show. I accumulated a collection of Mexican folk art between 1978 and 1997, I stopped collecting when I ran out of space. I love the stuff! A very high percentage of creative individuals have come from the Mexican culture. My maternal grandfather was from Mexico and I can thank him, through my mother, for any talent I inherited. Mi abuelo came from a large family and they used to bring us little gifts when they'd come up to visit from Hermosillo. Sadly, I don't have any of those early pieces of folk art any more. I remember them being very different from the pieces in my collection, but very cool. Anyway, painting this sent waves of nostalgia washing over me. I'll likely paint more of the pieces I own in the future.
